For the 2009 season Yallah will continue two special tours as a result of popular demand during the past ten years. They are: The Imperial Cities The Grand South
The Imperial Cities Tour: Day One: Arrive at Casablanca airport and transfer, possibly after a visit to the huge Hassan II mosque (minaret 200m high) before driving up to Rabat along the coast. This is the capital city of Morocco, home to the king and his ministers and redolent with varied histories and fortunes. Visits next morning. Day Two: We lunch on a riverboat (moored) before the two-hour drive to Meknes, where we stay in a small riad in the Medina (old town). A short visit in the late afternoon. Day Three: Leaving Meknes after a few more hours in this often-neglected Imperial city, we travel to Moulay Idriss, the pilgrimage town housing the mausoleum of the first Arab leader of Morocco and the father of the founder of Fes. In the afternoon we visit the Roman ruins at Volubilis until dusk. And then we head for Fes, an hour away and a stay in one of Morocco's finest private riads, a palace which is itself the visit of a lifetime. Days Four and Five are spent in and around the extraordinary 9th century city of Fes. Full of artistic and architectural interest; we will be fortified by some of Morocco's great meals! Day Six: We travel all day south, through the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, to Midelt. Day Seven: Travelling through the Valley of 1000 Kasbahs, we arrive late afternoon in Ouarzazate, stay in Riad Salam hotel and dine in the shadow of the huge Glaoui kasbah, Taourirt. Day Eight: North to the foothills of the Toubkal Massif in the High Atlas, visiting the fabled White Kasbah of Telouet before driving over the Tizi n' Tichka (2260m). We stay in the Sanglier Qui Fume auberge, allowing for horse-riding or walking in the hills, through the mudhut Berber villages, the next morning. Days Ten and Eleven: Across to the Atlantic coast and the laidback fishing port of Essaouira, rich in history and of particular interest in terms of Morocco's Jewish heritage. Days Twelve and Thirteen: Finally into Marrakech again, this time staying in a magnificent private palace, peacefully tucked into the old town and with a range of terraces overlooking the medina and the snow-covered Atlas Mountains. Day Fourteen: Transfer and depart from Marrakech Menara airport. This Yallah Tour does not include:
